There is truly nothing quite like the magic of a Disney reveal. Last time it was more of a general agreement that this would be our family vacation. This time, we had been keeping a secret for more than a few months, making sure we could get reservations where we wanted to stay, and we went ahead and booked a surprise trip for our family.
So this summer we finally spilled the beans: We are going back to Disney!!
If you’ve ever tried keeping a secret this big from your kids, you know the self-control it takes not to blurt it out every time a Disney movie comes on or a park video pops up on your feed. But seeing their faces when they realized what was happening? Worth every single second of holding it in!
The Surprise Setup: “Happiest Birthday on Earth!”
Since we already had birthdays to celebrate, it felt like the absolute perfect opportunity to pull off the ultimate surprise!
I set up a dedicated surprise wall with a gold glitter banner reading “Happiest Birthday on Earth”, anchored with clusters of pastel pink, purple, and pearl balloons.
Alongside the setup, I had their brand-new Minnie ears ready to go!!
At first they thought it was just a princess or castle-themed birthday celebration. Once the cake was eaten and presents were given… there was one surprise left. Even though only one was celebrating a birthday that day, the double surprise was when two presents came out, one for each.
When the Minnie ears were opened, I excitedly asked, “Those are cute, where should we wear them?” Their faces lit up… and the surprise was spilled!!
Round Two: What We’re Doing Differently This Time
Our last trip was absolutely incredible. It was also a massive learning experience. Going to Disney the first time teaches you a lot about pacing, priorities, schedules, and what actually makes your family happy versus what looks good on paper.
Now that we’re Disney veterans, here’s a sneak peek into how we’re tweaking our game plan for this coming trip.
1. Prioritizing Quality over “Doing It All!”
On our last trip, it was easy to fall into the trap of trying to pack every single ride, show, and photo op into every day. This time around, we know our must-do’s and must-try’s, and we’re building in far more breathing room. Less rushing, more soaking in the atmosphere.
2. Doubling Down on What They Loved
Instead of guessing what will hit, we’re focusing heavily on what made their eyes light up last time, whether that’s specific characters, dining spots, parades, or just a beautiful evening by the pool watching fireworks.
3. Smart Pacing & Rest Days
Disney energy is real, but so is Disney burnout! Last time taught us that early mornings and late nights every single day take their toll. This trip will have strategic built-in downtime so everyone stays rested, happy, and ready for the magic!
4. Matching Outfits & Ears on Lock!
